On foot around Cerdanya

During the third week of May, a group of hikers from the travel agency ‘Mandala’, from Finland, visited us. They were housed in the ‘Cerdanya Ecoresort’ and each day had a hiking trip scheduled. Hiking every day, walking around Cerdanya!

The Ecoresort in Prullans was the starting point of a daily excursion, each to a different place in Cerdanya. Hiking up in the mountains and down in the valley, on the sunny and on the shady slopes, enjoying solitude and rural life, so that they’d provide the most complete experience!

Four photos of each hike

The first day we didn’t have to move anywhere by minibus: We’ve started from, and came back to the hotel on foot. The route linked various farmhouses on the sunny slope. We’ve entered the ‘Cova d’Ànes (cave), all equipped with headlamps. Later we have deviated a little from the route to visit the Dolmen d’Orén.

Devil’s Bridge

On the second day, we followed a circular route passing by the villages of Músser, Aransa and Lles. According to the legend, the Pont del Diable, ‘Devil’s Bridge’, would have been built by the Devil himself to help escape the witch expelled from Músser.

Prat del Cadí

On the third day we walked/climbed to the emblematic Prat del Cadí (Field of the Cadí), at the foot of the rocky and steep north face of the Serra del Cadí. Half of the group crowned the Pla de l’Àliga as well, while the other half descended from the Prat del Cadí calmly, to finish at the bar in Estana earlier!

La Seu d’Urgell

The fourth day was a day of rest, but almost all of the guests signed up for an optional trip to La Seu d’Urgell. A little urban life and culture, feel and do good after so much nature and solitude. We had a closer look of the activities in the white water of the Segre Olympic Park, and we have walked through the streets of the historic centre with its Romanesque Cathedral.

Bons Homes

On the fifth day we went with the minibus to Viliella to start the hike there. Following the GR107, or Camí dels Bons Homes, ‘Route of Good Men’, (Cathars), we reached the hotel in Prullans. We admired the Salt del Molí (waterfall) and, already near Prullans, we visited the gardens, orchard and greenhouse of the Ecoresort, to understand the principles of Permaculture a little better, and to testify to where much of the food we find on our plate comes from!

Fields with horses

For the sixth and last day we agreed that the original plan had to be changed to a lighter hike, down in the valley. From the Quadres Sanctuary, we linked paths, passing by five Romanesque churches and the Segre River. The real key players were the horses, mares and foals!

Hiking every day, walking around Cerdanya! A well exploited and impressive week!
